Settling in, with (some) tears

Why a few tears are fine, and what helps the first two weeks go well.

A row of coloured pencils laid on a wooden board

Most children cry at some point in their first fortnight. It is a sign that they love you and noticed you leaving, not that something is wrong.

What helps

  • Say goodbye properly, even if it causes tears. Slipping away makes the next morning harder.
  • Keep goodbyes short and the same every day.
  • Bring something from home that smells of home.
  • Call us as often as you like. We will always tell you honestly how the day is going.

What we do

We plan settling around your child, not a fixed timetable. Visits start at an hour with you in the room and grow from there.
