Why we go out in the rain
Puddle suits, warm hands and what children learn from bad weather.

Parents sometimes ask why their child comes home with muddy knees in February. The honest answer is that the garden is one of the best rooms we have, and it would be a waste to close it for half the year.
What rain teaches
Rain turns the garden into a science lesson nobody has to plan: water runs downhill, puddles are deeper than they look, worms come up, and a bucket left out fills faster than you think.
Keeping warm
We keep puddle suits and spare gloves in every size by the doors. Children come in before they are cold, and there is always soup or warm milk waiting.
The only rule is that it has to be safe. Lightning, high winds and icy ground keep us in; drizzle never does.
Please send wellies on the days your child is with us. Everything else, we have.
