Burrow is for the age when everything is suddenly possible: running, climbing, pouring, saying no. The room is built for it — low shelves they can reach, real jugs to pour from, a climbing frame indoors for wet days.

We staff Burrow at one adult to four children. The legal minimum for two-year-olds is one to five; we think the difference shows at lunchtime and at the door.

Words

Children learn to talk by being talked with. Key people keep a note of the new words each child uses, and share them with you in the daily note so you can hear them at home too.

Toilet training

We start when your child shows us they are ready, and we plan it with you. There is no deadline and no chart on the wall.

A day in this room

  1. Arrivals and breakfast at the low table
  2. Hello song, then choosing time
  3. Snack: fruit the children help to cut
  4. Garden: sand, bikes, the mud kitchen
  5. Lunch, serving themselves
  6. Sleep or quiet rest with books
  7. Small-group time: painting, playdough, stories
  8. Tea
  9. Garden again, or music if it is dark
  10. Home time
