Long projects, real tools, and learning to work together.

By three, children can hold on to an idea for a long time. A question about where the rain goes can run for three weeks: guttering, buckets, a trip to the stream, a drawing of the whole water cycle pinned up by the door.

Meadow children use real tools with an adult beside them — hammers, saws, knives for cooking — because being trusted with something real is how care and concentration are learned.
